John Burkhalter

John b. ca. 1763 and Sara Hardin Burkhalter b. ca. 1763, were the parents of
David Newsome Burkhalter, b. in Warren County, Georgia 17 Sept. 1803 – d. 5 Apr.
1876, who was living in Marion County, Ga. before 1831.  David N. Burkhalter
married Ann Eliza Short, b. abt. 1808 – d. 26 Apr. 1882, daughter of Thomas
Short, Jr., b. abt. 1763, and Martha Jones Short, b. abt. 1768.  Their children
were:

I.	John Thomas Burkhalter, b. 23 Mar. 1818 – d. 6 Aug. 1910 in Trinidad,
Colorado, buried in Thomaston, Ga., m. Frances Weaver 16 Mar. 1864.
II.	Sarah Martha Burkhalter, b. 1830 – d. ?, m. Dr. Steven W. Woodruff on 16.
Mar. 1853.
III.	Ann Eliza Burkhalter, b. 22 Aug. 1832 – d. between 1871-1880, m. Thomas
Jefferson Colquitt on 14 Apr. 1853.
IV.	Harriett Burkhalter, b. 1834 – d. 10 Jun. 1868 in Columbus, Ga., m. John
Wesley Brown on 11 Dec. 1855.
V.	Mary Fletcher Burkhalter, b. 1837 – d. 1905, m. James Wiggins on 10 Jul. 1860.
VI.	David G. Burkhalter, b. 1841 – d. 8 Jul. 1910 in Americus, Ga., m. 1st Berta
Brown 6 Feb. 1868, 2nd Lula Hooks on 10 May 1881.
VII.	Dorothy Jones Burkhalter, b. abt. 1844 – d. abt. Nov. 1890, m. Thomas
Benjamin Lumpkin, 8 Oct. 1866.
VIII.	Savannah Virginia Burkhalter, b. 17 Jan. 1848 – d. 24 Dec. 1928, m. John
Lawson Burkhalter, 24 Nov. 1868.

David Burkhalter was a Methodist minister,a merchant/manufacturer, and
politician in Marion County.  (See deed copied from county records confirming
his selling the land upon which Buena Vista is built in Historical Gems.)
