Harvey was born in Putnam County, Ga. and was the son of Moses Harvey and Nancy (Cox) Harvey, being one of the most distinguished families in Georgia. He was a near relative of the late Benjamin Harvey Hill. When a young man Mr. Harvey came to Talbot County and later moved to Marion and entered the mercantile business in Buena Vista. He was also an extensive planter and owned many slaves. He took a active part in civic, social, religious and political affairs, and was always ready to respond to every worthy cause. No man in this section was held in higher esteem that T. W. Harvey. In 1861 he volunteered his services to the Confederate army and remained in the war four years. He was a valiant soldier and had the affection and admiration of his comrades throughout this terrible struggle. After the war Mr. Harvey soon adjusted his business to the greatly changed conditions. He realized that the old order had passed and success depended upon optimism and the abilty to utilize present cercumstances. For many years he conducted one of the best stores in Marion. He was a potent factor in the construction of the Buena Vista and Ellaville railroad, being a director and a large stock holder. He mananged his large farms in the country with remarkable success. He was always kind, quiet and diplomatic and handled the free Negros with extraordinary skill. His long and useful life demonstrated that God had endowed him with a sound body, wise head and a pure heart. His disposition was equitable and modest and his manners were gentle and charming. He took an active part in religious program of this section, serving for many years as chairman of the board of stewards of the Buena Vista Methodist Church of which he was a consistent member from young manhood until his death, April, 1893. Mary Malinda Brown, later Mrs. T. W. Harvey, was born in Talbot County, Georga, the daughter of Joseph Brown and Mary (Scuslock) Brown, being a family of wealth and culture. She also had special training in music. She was married in Talbot County, Georgia to Thomas W. Harvey. There only child died in infancy, but reared several orphans. Their beautiful home was the center of refined and cultured society where lavish hospitality was dispensed. She came of a long line of illustrious ancesters, beginning back to the days of old, "when knighthood was in flower." She inherited a charm and nobility which shone in her person and was eloquent in her actions and teachings. Having been trained in a noble christian faith, she always showed the devotion, courage and fortitude bequeathed to her spirit. Mrs. Harvey was a leader of all activities of the Methodist Church, taking a prominent part in the Missionary Society and teaching a class of young ladies in the Sunday School for many years. Her Sunday School pupils still feel the power and inspiration of her christian instruction. She kept a watchful supervision over the parsonage and always saw that every need was supplied. Additional Comments: This biography was on pages 149-150 of the "History of Marion County Georgia 1827-1930" by Nettie Powell. Mary M. Brown Harvey b. 6/12/1834 d. 10/28/1893. Both Mr. and Mrs. Harvey are buried at Buena Vista Cemetery, Buena Vista, GA. Their foster son Albert J. Harvey was married to Molly Fletcher Brown a niece of Mary M. Brown Harvey. Albert died 11/15/1887. Molly and Albert had one daughter Hattie B. Harvey b. 2/6/1878 d. 1/17/1905 who married Charles McCall Clements, Sr. Hattie and Charles had one child Thelma b. 5/30/1900.
