Joseph S. Rogers

Born in Marion County Feb. 2, 1855, Joseph H. Rogers was the son of Thomas
Lawrence and Georgia Rebecca McMichael Rogers.

J.S. Rogers began his business career as a farmer in Marion County before
becoming thirty years of age.  He conducted a large livestock business; mules,
cows and hogs were readily available.  He was noted for his honesty and judgment
as well as fairness.  He worked toward the construction of the Buena
Vista-Ellaville railroad during the years 1884-85 and the organization of the
Buena Vista Loan and Savings Bank in 1888.  He served as president, vice
president and chairman of the board of directors of this bank continuing as a
stockholder until his death 8 Feb. 1934.

He served as State Representative in 1898-99 and was chairman of Marion County
Commissions for many years.  He also was a member of the Marion County Board of
Education.

Mr. Rogers was married 2 Nov. 1904 to Elizabeth Mauk and they were the parents
of Joseph Mauk and Thomas Lawrence Rogers.
