Deed Book E, Pages 71-72-73 Georgia Marion County This Indenture made this fifth day of March Eighteen Hundred and Sixty, between Leander F. McLaughlin of the County of Meriwether and State aforesaid of the one part and Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley of the County of Meriwether and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Leander F. McLaughlin and the said Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley did on the third day of May 1859 executed a certain promissory note bearing date as aforesaid to Webb and Sage for the sum of Six Hundred Seventy Eight Dollars and Seventy Eight Cents due twenty months after said date also a certain joint and several promissory note dated the twenty-eighth day of January 1860 for the sum of Five Hundred Thirteen Dollars and Sixty Cents due on the first day of November next, after the date aforesaid, said note made payable to Mssrs. Crane, Boyston and Co., also a certain joint and several promissory note made payable to Andrew Park or Bearer for the sum of Three Thousand Three Hundred Dollars dated the twenty-second day of February Eighteen Hundred and Sixty and this Indenture further Witnesseth that the aforesaid three promissory notes, dated as aforesaid due as aforesaid and payable as aforesaid was signed by the said Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley as joint and several makers whereas the said Leander F. McLaughlin was the principal maker of all the said notes, and was alone interested in the consideration of them the said Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley to the said Leander F. McLaughlin in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged as well as for the better protecting and serving harmless the said Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley Security as aforesaid on the aforesaid note against any lots or damage that may befall them, by reason of said security the said Leander F. McLaughlin hath granted, bargained and sold and doth by these presents grant, bargain and sell unto the said Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley, their heirs and assigns the following Negroes to wit -Lottie a Mulatto woman about thirty seven years of age, Jane a Mulatto woman about twenty one years old and her infant child Charles about one year old, Henry a Mulatto boy about fourteen years of age, Virl (or Virge?) a Mulatto boy about twelve years of age, Lowe, a Mulatto boy about ten, Jim a Mulatto boy about six years old, John a Mulatto boy about 3 years of age, Camilla, a Mulatto girl about six years of age, Pleas, a dark complected Negro boy eight years of age, Dick a boy about six years of age, Anna a dark complected woman about twenty five years of age. To have and to hold the aforesaid Negro slaves to the said Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley, their heirs, and assigns to their own property use benefit and behoof forever and the said Leander F. McLaughlin for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators to the said Negro slaves unto the said Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley will warrant and forever defend against the claims of himself, his heirs and against the claims of all other persons whatever provided nevertheless that of the said Leander F. McLaughlin, his heirs, executors and administrators shall will and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Webb and Sage, Crane Boyston and Co. and Andrew Park, their heirs and assigns the above mentioned and appointed for the payment thereof in the said promissory notes mentioned with all legal interest which may be due upon the same and all expenses which may be incurred by the said Webb and Sage, Crane Boyston and Co. and Andrew Park in collecting the same according to the terms of said notes and thereby same harmless and release from all loss and damage the said Joshua Brooks and Amanuel Finley Security upon the notes aforesaid by reason of such their securityship then and from thenceforth this present Indenture and the right to the property hereby conveyed shall cease determine and be void to all interest and purposes.
