ACTS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, PASSED IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER, 1837. FERRIES. 1837 Vol. 1 -- Page: 112 Sequential Number: 096 Full Title: AN ACT to establish certain Ferries across Flint River, in the counties of Craford and Marion, and regulate the toll of the same. Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Georgia, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and immediately after the passage of this act, John Mathews, his heirs and assigns, are hereby vested with the privilege of keeping a ferry across Flint River, in the county of Crawford, on his own land: Provided, the said John Mathews, his heirs and assigns, do keep a good ferry flat for the conveyance of passengers, and give due attention to said ferry; and that the said John Mathews have the right to demand and receive the same rates of toll as are allowed to other ferries on Flint River. Sec. 2. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That Mary Wanamaker and Slaughter Hill, be, and they are hereby, authorized to keep a ferry across Flint River, in the county of Marion, on their own land, respectively, and that they be allowed the same privileges as are allowed to John Mathews, in the first section of this act. Sec. 3. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That all laws and parts of laws militating against this act, be, and the same are hereby repealed. Additional Comments: Slaughter Hill born abt. 1802 in NC, died May 28, 1861 Macon County. I believe that in 1837, the Flint river was the western border of Marion county and that portion was later carved off to form part of Macon county.
