Rainey Honored By Writer The following article appeared in Valley Echoes daily column by Tom Sellers Columbus Ledger about October 16, 1958 "Along the back road of the Valley, few people have left their mark for good as plainly as the old country doctors. They are a vanishing breed now, but their deeds - and their names - will live long after they are gone. "Over in Buena Vista, a stranger was looking through school records the other day and noted that children bore the given name "Boyce", "Tucker", and "Rainey" with uncommon regularity. Investigation showed that they all had been delivered by Dr. Boyce Tucker Rainey, a practicing physician in that area for 45 years. "Dr. Rainey, a tall gentleman kept trace of "his babies" through 3,726 deliveries then he just quit counting. That was twelve years ago. "Most of the 4,000-odd youngest, he has helped into the world were born at home, many in the same house where their mothers and fathers first saw the light. But in all the years, Dr. Rainey has lost only two mothers in childbirth. "Because of their love for the doctor, scores of families have honored him by naming a child for him. "But recently a young man appeared on the scene who came by the title for another reason. He was the doctor's brand new great- grandson, Boyce Tucker Rainey IV of Leesburg, Fla." "Despite a recent illness, Dr. Rainey still gets calls - day and night - and faithfully answers them. Many of his patients are indigent, with no money to pay him, but this makes no difference. And he has given much of his material substance away during the long years of service. "He may be a poor businessman but Dr. Rainey is a great physician: his work has had its reward in the hearts of the people. And after all, how can you put cash value on sturdy men and women, OR on a life saved.
