Ingersol in Stewart County, therefore the signers of this letter were probably a company from Marion County. His Excellency Gov pg 33 Fort Ingersol June the 5th 1836 To his Excellency the Governor of the State of Georgia Most Excellent Sir We the undersigned, the drafted men from the County of Marion and State aforesaid your most humble constituents and petitioners do most sincerily pray of you to take into consideration, the dangerous situation of our friends and relations, whom we have left behind, they their homes and property being exposed to an Indian population living among them in our County protected by some of the White people thereof. We therefore earnestly hope your excellency will extend such relief to our wifes, children and fellow citizedn of said County as to you shall seem most proper and just. We select and appoint William Newsom our fellow soldier to bear this petition and acquaint you with the nature of our fears and apprehensions respecting the aforesaid Indians living in our County. Capt J. R. W. Berry (Jonas ? James?) (Macon County) *Hicks, S.J. (Samuel James) Hicks/Hix, Samuel James Lived in Marion Co at time of service until 1842 Pension filed in AL (Barbour, Dale, Henry Co). He married in Dale County, and raised his family and died in Henry County, Alabama. My gggrandfather. Born in SC.
