State of Georgia Sumter County. Personally before me comes Mrs. F.H. Holston of the said county and state and after being duly sworn, on oath says that she desires to apply for a pension allowed under the Act of 1910, and submit testimony to make out the same, true answers makes to the following questions to wit: 1. What is your name, and where do you reside? Mrs. F.H. Holsten, Buena Vista, Ga. 2. How long and since when have you been a continuing resident in the State of Georgia? 1837, all life. 3. When, where and to whom were you married? 1865, Macon Co., Ga. Jasper Holston. 4. When, where and in what Company and Regiment did your husband enlist as a soldier in Confederate Army of Georgia Militia? Ellaville, 1863 or 1864, Co. B., 17th Regt. Ga. Vols. (Note: Jasper Holston also appears on the roster of Co. G, 5th Ga., with enlist date of May 11, 1861, discharged April 12, 1862, overage.) 5. When and where did the Commands of your husband surrender or discharge from the army? Appomattox C.H., Va., April 9, 1865. 6. Was your husband personally present at the time of the surrender or discharge of this command? Yes. 7. thru 8i. are indicated N/A. 8j. When and where did your husband die? Were you residing together when he died? If not, how long had you resided apart? 20 Dec 1874, Marion Co., Ga., yes living together. 9. What property of any description did you own, hold or control for your use and its cash value, Nov. 4, 1908. None. 10. What property of any kind have you sold or given away since Nov. 4, 1908? What was received for it and what did you do With the proceeds thereof ? None 11. What property of any description of any value have you now? None 12. What are your annual earnings or income and their value? None, live with children 13. Have you heretofore been paid a pension by the state? No F.H. State of Georgia Macon County Personally before me comes F.M. Devane, who after being duly sworn true answers to make, to the following questions, answers as follows: 1. What is your name and where do you reside? F.M. Devane, Oglethorpe, Macon Co., Ga. 2. How long and since when have you know Mrs. Fannie Holston, applicant? No answer 3. How long and since when has she continuously resided in this state? No answer 4. When and to whom was she married? How do you know? No answer. 5. How long and since when did you know Jasper Holston, her husband? From 1863 or 4. 6. When, where and in what company and regiment did Jasper Holston enlist? 1863 or 4, company B, 17th regiment Ga. Vols. (Infantry), Ellaville, Ga. 7. Were you a member of the same company? Yes 8. How long within your personal knowledge did he perform actual military service with his company and regiment? About two years. 9. How long and when did his command surrender and was discharged? April 9th, 1865 at Appomattox C.H., Va. 10. Were you personally present whennit was surrendered? Yes 11. Was the husband of applicant personally present at surrender? Yes 12. For what cause, if you know of your own knowledge was he prevented from returning to his command? Did not leave 13. Elmore, Ordinary of Macon County. Georgia Macon County I, J.S. Elmore, Ordinary, in and for said county, do certify that F.M. Devane is a citizen of this (Macon) county, favorably well known to me, and that his statements are worthy of full faith and credit. I further certify that Mr. Devane was sworn by me before signing the foregoing affidavit. Given under my hand and official seal of office, this 15th day of October 1910. J.S. Elmore, Ordinary Macon County. ORDINARY’S CERTIFICATE State of Georgia Sumter County I John A. Cobb, Ordinary of said county do certify that I know F.H. Holston, the applicant, for pension. She is the person she represents herself to be and she is bonafide continuing resident citizen of said countyu and was in (on?) 4th Nov., 1908. That I also know …………………………. The witness who swears to the service of husband, and ……………………………. Who are freeholders. That all of them are now residents of said county and were duly sworn by me before signing the foregoing affidavits and that they all, are truthful, trustworthy, and their statements are entitled to full faith and credit. That the tax returns, Sumter Co., returned for tax is for 1908 $ none, for 1910 none. Sworn under my hand and official seal of office this 29th day of October, 1910. John A. Separate Writing Georgia Marion County Personally appeared before the undersigned Ordinary in and for said county, John Harmen(?), to me personally known to be a citizen of said county and who is a person of trustworthy character and whose statements are entitled to full faith and credit in support of application of Mrs. Fannie Holston for pension, and who after being sworn deposes and says that he knew Jasper Holston, husband of applicant, from year 1865 until his death which occurred in Marion Co., Ga. about the year 1874 or 1875. That said Jasper Holston and Mrs. Fannie Holston were married in Marion Co., Ga. in the summer of 1865 and lived together as husband and wife until the death of said Jasper Holston. Deponent knows above facts to be true for the reason that said Jasper Holston and hes wife, Mrs. Hannie Holston lived in same neighborhood with deponent and within one mile of deponent at the time of the marriage and until the death of said Jasper Holston, and deponent knows same from his personal knowledge. Deponent knows Mrs. Fannie Holston. Applicant, and knows she is the lawful widow of said Jasper Holston and that she has not remarried since the death of said Jasper Holston. Deponent further swears that he has no interest insaid pension being granted to applicant. John Harmen Sworn to and subscribed before me, Oct. 22, 1910. John C. Butt, Ordinary, Marion, Co., Ga. Additional Comments: There is a curious entry on the roster of Co. G, 5th Ga. about the service record of Jasper Holston. He served a short time with Co. G, being discharged for overage(?) See below. Holston, Jasper- private May 11, 1861. Discharged, overage, August 12, 1862. Enlisted in Co. B, 17th Ga. as private February 12,1863. Wounded in hand, necessitating amputation, in 1864. On wounded furlough close of war. Married Francis H. Phillip Aug 27, 1865 Schley County. Found on 1870 Marion Co. census, Buena Vista, page 93, age 42. Widow, Fannie H. Holston filed for pension in Sumter Co. indicating service in Co. B, 17th Ga. She is found on 1880 Marion Co. census in Buena Vista pg 98b as widow with 3 children. belvad@bellsouth.net The widow's claim pension application indicates he died 20 Dec 1874 in Marion Co., burial unknown.
