To: Mrs. Laura Hart
Mauk, Ga.
July 1919

Dear Mother,

   I will write you a few lines as this is Mothers Day for the A. E. F.   Every boy
in the A. E. F is supposed to write to mothers today.

   This leaves me feeling fine this A. M.  I was real sick for a few days this week
but I am well now.  I haven’t felt better since I’ve been in France.   I hope you
have got on well by this time.  I was awful sorrow to hear that you had been sick. 
Hope you will soon be regaining good health again.

   We are having some real nice weather over here for the last few days and it makes
a great difference in the looks of France.  I think I would like it better here in
the summer than I do in the winter.  I don’t think I will get to spend much of the
summer here.  I think we will be going home soon and won’t we be happy boys when we
get home again.  We didn’t know how to appreciate a good home and a good mother when
we were with you all but now we realize what you mean to us, and how I think all the
boys will love and care more for mothers than ever before. 
 
  I wonder what those kids are doing today.  How I would like to be there today.  To
be there with them.  Tell Sam I will soon be there for him to tell me all about his
school.

   Will close hoping to hear from you again soon and that you are well again.
