Irish trot and other games were played. Music was furnished by Messrs. Barrow and Helm on their violins and Messrs. Green and McCorkle performing on harps. It was simply grand. Mr. L.T. Barrow, of Reynolds, opened his school at Solomon’s Temple January 5th, he has over forty pupils. Mr. Barrow is well pleased with his school and desires a regular attendance, let all pull together and keep him pleased. No extra charges except for pupils beyond eighteen years of age. Everybody give him a trial, I am sure you will be benefited. Mr. Allen Dillard is all smiles, a new little girl at his home. Mr. Goodroe’s sawmill is the place to get your lumber. He is ever ready to fill your bills. Call to see him or Mr. Jabus McCorkle. Miss Mamie Green and the little children are paying their parents a visit this week. The entertainment at Mr. Mitchell’s given not long ago will be remembered by his many friends. Dock Wall being so heavy broke a sleeper as he had his whole weight on that spot. Messrs. Goodroe, Helm and McCorkle say they will take one of those fishing sprees next summer down on Flint River. Our schoolteacher is from that part of the country and has been telling them about how they catch them down there and is has aroused their curiosity. The boys tell Bob Green that the burning of brush and trash around looks just like putting him to ploughing (plowing?). Guess what young men go to see sisters and one says the other one is the best looking and the other says not. Mr. Barrow had company Friday afternoon at his school. He is ever ready to receive any company that desires to give him a call. Preaching at Mt. Piska every fourth Saturday and Sunday. Reporter The Marion County Patriot Friday, January 30, 1903 Page Four Blueville Items The Misses McCorkle entertained a few young people Saturday eve. Mr. Riner filled his appointment at Mt. Piska Saturday and Sunday. Mr. George McCorkle went to BuenaVista last week on business. Mr. Matt Blythe, of this community has moved to Buena Vista, there he will join his many friends. Mr. Blythe is one of our most enterprising farmers and will be missed by his many friends in this locality. Our school teacher visited friends and relatives at Tazewell Saturday and Sunday. He reports a huge time. Mr. Barrow’s well pleased with his school. He pays his pupils quite a compliment. Mr. Jeff Green has gone to town on business. Call on the McCorkle’s for any lumber that you need. Mr. Taylor Duke went over to Tazewell last week on business. Mr. Bob Green, who has had a severe cold, is better now. Mr. Helm went to Buena Vista last week on business. The Messrs. Welch are working their young mules anywhere they like now. They are well pleased with them. Quite a crowd went up to hear Mr. Riner Sunday. He is a fine man, we are all pleased with him.
