School is progressing nicely; quite a number of new pupils have been added, with about 50 enrolled. The popular teacher, Miss Anna Green, is pleasing both patrons and pupils. We are glad to welcome the family of Mr. N.A. Carden in our village. Rev. W.P. Allison filled his regular appointment at Box Springs Saturday and Sunday. Regular services were held at the Brantley Methodist Church Sunday, conducted by Rev. C.M. Meeks. On account of the inclemency of the weather, the congregation was small. The family of R.J. Spinks are convalescing from an attack of lagrippe. S.R. Blythe, of Columbus, is among relatives and friends here this week. Born to Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Warren a fine girl. Mrs. Rebecca Goodroe is making an extended visits with relatives here. Rev. Joe Short has returned from a pleasant visit to relatives in Shellman. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rush are smiling over the arrival of a fine boy at their home. C.M. Edge, of Buena Vista, visited homefolks near Brantley Sunday. Notwithstanding the unfavorable weather for farm work, the progressive farmers, S.N. and S.M. Burt and J.B. Simmons, are pushing forward their work getting ready for planting. Rev. Hugh F. Oliver, of Buena Vista, will fill his regular appointment at New Providence church Saturday and Sunday. Sax The Marion County Patriot, No. 15 Friday, July 3, 1908 Page Five Brantley It looked like a reunion last Saturday afternoon, when the farmers, being at leisure, assembled to witness the ball game. The boys played a good game of baseball, the score being 1-7. Tazewell will play Brantley next Saturday at this place. Mr. H.E. Goodroe was among his customers last week. On his last trip he was a little longer than usual; so we suspected that he got lost, but he says that his luck was only a little better. Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Drane, of Buena Vista, passed through our vicinity last week. Messrs. C.B. Goodroe, J.R. Short and Mrs. Net Guy spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Short. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Burt, of Buena Vista, were visiting relatives here Sunday. Messrs. Ellis and Homer Benson were in our section Sunday. Mr. George Blythe was at Brantley Monday. Messrs. Sidney Short and Harpes Goodroe attended Sunday School at Poplar Springs Sunday afternoon. There must be other attractions as they go quite often. Rev. Hugh F. Oliver filled his regular appointment at Providence Sunday afternoon. Miss May Byrd Burt is visiting Miss Sarah Burkhalter, of Americus. Mr. and Mrs. Grey Noel were in Buena Vista shopping Saturday. The fishermen of Brantley will spent Tuesday night at Hollis’s Mill. We wish them good luck. Pod The Marion County Patriot, No. 20 Friday, May 28, 1909 Page Three Brantley Miss Amy Hardage visited Miss Ossie Mae Goodroe, of near Solomon’s Temple, the latter part of last week. Miss Myrtice Nutt was the guest of Miss Susie Noell Sunday. A large crowd attended Sunday school here Sunday afternoon. There will be singing at Brantley church the third Sunday evening in June. Miss Maybird Burt is expected home in a few days from Gainesville, where she has been attending school. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goodroe died last Wednesday night and was laid to rest in Providence cemetery Thursday evening. Mr. Walter Burt is expected home from Emory College this week. Pet The Marion County Patriot, No. 25 Friday, July 2, 1909 Page Four Brantley Mrs. Chas. Allison and children, of Oglethorpe, are visiting her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Allison here for a few days. Mrs. Marlin Hardage, who has been quite sick at the home of her father, Mr. C.B. Goodroe, is improving. Mr. and Mrs. G.M. Benson, Mr. and Mrs. J. Ellis Benson and children were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Martin in Buena Vista Sunday. Mr. D.E. Crye has returned home from Hot Springs, Ark. And Texas, where he has been recuperating his health and visiting relatives. Misses Cora Hendricks, Hallie and Maude Parker and Messrs. Loyd Cartwright and Edmond Perry, of Tazewell visited Mr. and Mrs. Bascom Parker Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bascom Parker entertained a few friends Saturday evening from eight to eleven o’clock. Games were played and music was rendered by Misses Amy Hardage and Forest Browning and Messrs. Charlie and Elbert Goodroe, after which delicious cream was served. Messrs. C.B. Goodroe, Marlin Edge, Harper Goodroe and D.E. Crye are attending the district meeting in Buena Vista this week.
