Mr. and Mrs. Albert McDaniel were shopping in Buena Vista Friday. Mr. R.H. Reynolds made a business trip to Columbus last week. Miss Nettie Poole and Mr. John Huffman spent Saturday and Sunday with Mrs. Willie Poole. Messrs. Johnsons, of Ellaville, were in our village Sunday. Mr. Horace Poole made a business trip to Box Springs Thursday. Mrs. Emma McDaniel was on the sick list this week. The singing here Sunday was a success. Mrs. Howard Duncan is on the sick list this week. Rev. J.W. Elder will fill his regular appointment here the third Sunday. Miss Rose Bud Cook has returned home after a very pleasant visit with friends at Ellebeck. Mr. Bob Tompson is suffering with a broken arm. Messrs. Poole gave an ice cream supper at their home on Howard Avenue Saturday night. A large crowd was present. The people of Brown Springs have organized a singing club to meet the first and third Sundays. Mrs. Rachel Coulter is visiting her grandson, A.M. Rogers, at Elabeck, this week. Messrs. L. Battle and Neal Stokes, of Box Springs, were here Sunday. Mr. R.H. Reynolds and Ida Belle Reynolds attended preaching at Mt. Zion Sunday. Mr. Horace Poole spent Saturday at Parade Springs. Possum The Marion County Patriot, No. 26 Friday, July 9, 1909 Page One Brown Spring Our community was shocked by the death of Mr. T.J. McClung, which occurred at his home on Tuesday morning. Mr. McClung was a Christian gentleman and one of our best citizens. Mrs. Lizzie Scott and children, of Phoenix City, Ala., who has been visiting at the home of Mrs. C.A. Rogers, have returned home. Messrs. Hermon (Herman?) and Jessie McDaniel, of Preston, Ga., spent the Fourth with relatives and friends here. The family reunion of Mrs. Hester on last Saturday was well attended. Rev. Clynes/Olynes and Mr. T.H. Retherford, of Eelbeck, attended services at the Chapel Sunday. Mrs. Posy Brown and Miss Jennie Maye Reynolds visited Miss Green and Mrs. Feilder (transciber note: should be Fielder) on Pine Knot recently. Mrs. Nathaniel Stringfellow, of Dothan, Ala., is visiting her uncle here this week. Miss Alma Parker and Mr. Lon Sattle attended the singing Sunday p.m. Miss Blanche Youngblood has resumed her school work here. We are glad to welcome her return. Mr. and Mrs. Albert McDaniel and Mr. and Mrs. Posey Brown enjoyed at fish-fry at Mr. Ryals last Saturday. Mr. Elijah L. Cook, of Columbus, returned home today after a pleasant visit to his father and friends. Misses Ida Belle Reynolds and Fannie Ella McDaniel accompanied by Mr. Herma (Herman?) McDaniel spent Saturday at Juniper. The married ladies’ club met with Mrs. Will Rutherford Wednesday p.m. Little Andrew Roberson is very low with fever. One of the most pleasant social gathering of the season was the reception on Monday evening given by Mrs. Posey Brown in honor of the visiting young ladies and young men, Misses Fannie McDaniel, of Preston and Dessa Carmack, of Columbus, and Messrs. Jim Owens, of Birmingham, Ala. and Elijah Cook, of Columbus. The house was beautifully decorated. After various games were played, cream, cake and punch were served by charming little girls.
