The Year 1913 Has Sensational Ending

Marion County Patriot –

The year 1913 had a sensational closing in Buena Vista.  On the morning of the 
last day, Wednesday, Mr. Troy Melton brought his bride of only a few months to 
town, with all her belongings, and created a sensation by carrying her to Mr. 
Huff Melton and creating a scene.  Mrs. Melton made an appeal to Marshall 
Willis for protection and friends advised with Mr. Melton who left for home in 
the afternoon.  Mrs. Melton took the evening train for Columbus, the 
sensational accusations are denied, we understand by both Mrs. Melton and Mr. 
Huff Melton.

Mr. Troy Melton is a highly respected citizen of our county, and has a host of 
friends.  He is the uncle of Mr. Huff Melton, who is brought into the case.  
Mrs. Melton’s home was in Columbus, and she as a professional nurse at the 
hospital when he married her a short time ago.

A second sensation was the marriage of Miss Nadine Wilson to Mr. Emmitt Jossey, 
both of Buena Vista.  The marriage took place about 10:30 o’clock on the night 
of the 31st., at the courthouse, Judge Noah Butt, who was called from his bed, 
performing the ceremony.

Just after the ceremony was over the bride’s father, Mr. J.L. Wilson, wild-
eyed, armed and furious, creating a panic with the witnesses and the official, 
and took the young bride home.

The young couple had arranged to leave on the Seminole for South Georgia, where 
they will make their future home.
