Rushin, who is partially demented, roughly treated a little girl in Buena Vista. The alleged act incensed many citizens and Sheriff Chapman was warned that an attempt would be made to storm the jail and lynch Rushin. Putting the prisoner in his automobile Sheriff Chapman rushed him to Americus for safekeeping.
