Neal, the bright Washington correspondent of the Cartersville Courant, in speaking of “the boys who represent Georgia, at the national capitol,” has this to say of Sumter’s representative. Albert Drane, of Americus, is another of our boys. He has been here longer than any of us and knows more people than any ten of the others. Why, he just seems to know everybody and I have yet to see the man or woman to say aught against Albert Drane. He makes a splendid clerk and has, I have no doubt, a lifetime position at $100 per month if he cares to keep it. Drane has made money too, and I learn that he has between three and five thousand dollars to show for his work in this city. Albert tells a good story and laughs so heartily at his own jokes that his listeners always catch the contagion too. Not a “dry smile” but a regular rousing old guffaw. The above from the Americus Recorder is correct except in one essential particular, and that is Mr. Drane is from Marion and not from Sumter County. He is an excellent young man of fine business qualities, and we don’t think it right that the Recorder should claim him as a citizen of Sumter County.
