Stewart, who had charge of the Butler Male and Female College for the past year, for the principal of this school for the ensuing year. Prof. Stewart will come to Buena Vista highly recommended as a teacher and we feel sure that if the patrons do their part there will be no trouble in building up a good school of one hundred or more pupils in Buena Vista. Heretofore some of the patrons of the school have been too dictatorial for the good of the school. A teacher with talent and experience must pull the ribbons, so to speak, over his school if it is made a success. The Marion County Patriot, No. 27 July 6, 1894 Page One Prof. James F. Stewart has been elected principal of the Buena Vista High School. The citizens of Buena Vista and patrons of the school may well feel proud of their selection as Prof. Stewart is a competent teacher and will please his patrons. – Butler Herald The Marion County Patriot, No. 32 August 10, 1894 Page Three Opening of the Buena Vista High School As will seen by an announcement elsewhere the fall term of the Buena Vista High School will open on Monday, 3rd day of September. Prof. Stewart, the new principal of the school, comes to Buena Vista highly recommended as a thoroughly competent, energetic and progressive teacher, and if he can have the co-operation of the people of this town and section he will build up a school of which the patrons and the town will be proud. There ought to be at least twenty-five or thirty boarding pupils, and if every family in the town will work to that point as they do at Barnesville that number can easily be had and more. The Barnesville people take so much interest in their school that heads of families will even write personal letters and sent out soliciting boarding pupils. It is necessary for us to present the benefit to be derived from a large number of boarding pupils. Our people should not only be united on the school question but they should bring to bear every personal effort to make the school a great success, both as to members and otherwise. Prof. Stewart will be ably assisted in the primary department by Miss Caldwell who is peculiarly fitted for training and teaching in that department. Miss Lena Bateman, a graduate of Wesleyan, will have charge of the music department. We hope and believe that Buena Vista will have a school to be proud of the coming scholastic year.
