Accidentally Shot

Mr. Jim Jossey Davis was accidentally shot in the hip at a picnic near Hoggs 
last Saturday.  Mr. Davis and Miss Maud Highnote were sitting in a buggy and 
Mr. Jesse Davis camp up and was conversing with them.  Mr. Jim Jossey Davis 
picked up his pistol which was lying in the foot of the buggy, removed the 
cartridges and handed it to Jesse to look at, and snapped it several times to 
note the action.  The pistol was handed back, the cartridges replaced and 
placed on the seat between himself and the young lady.  Miss Highnote picked up 
the pistol, not knowing the cartridges had been replaced and snapped it.  The 
pistol fired and took effect in Mr. Jim Jossey Davis’ hip.  The ball was probed 
for but could not be found.  Moral: Young men should not take pistols to 
picnics.
