Rainey, who served at the head of the city government for the past year, and was re-elected without opposition for a second term, tendered his resignation at the first meeting of the new council Monday night and it was accepted. Mr. S.N. Rushin, a member of council, was elected mayor by the council and Sheriff N.W. Parker was chosen as councilman to fill Councilman Rushin’s place. Mr. Rushin served as mayor pro tem last year and is not unfamiliar with the duties of the office. It is safe to say that he will give the town a clean administration, and perhaps he may be able to induce the council to give the town a supply of pure water and a few lights about the square that the taxpayers may be able to see where their money is going. Mayor Rainey has made a good official and his resignation is the cause of very general regret. He has discharged every duty of his office with perfect impartiality, and has guarded well every interest of the town in his charge. Mr. T.E. Chapman was elected marshal and will continue to give the town the same good service he has been rendering for the past few months.
