N. PHILLIPS CELEBRATES 63rd BIRTHDAY On Thursday, June the 9th, Mr. C. N. Phillips was pleasantly surprised by the assembling of many of his relatives and friends to a sumptuous birthday dinner. About ten o'clock the guests began to arrive and continued to come until twelve at which time they were invited to a dinner which was spread on a table in the yard in the shade of large China trees. The table was decorated with vases of pink roses and the beautiful birthday cake lighted with sixty-three candles; and heavily laden with barbecue, chicken, cakes, pies and other foods to numerous to mention. For drinks there were tubs of iced tea and iced water. Thus ensued an hour of merry feasting and talking. In the afternoon groups were congregated about the spacious house and yards enjoying the conversation and association of friends, some who had not met before in years. Later in the afternoon the crowd gathered again in the shade of the same trees where the table was located and blended their voices in some good old Sacred Harp songs. The singing was followed by preaching by Rev. J. E. Cox, Rev. Morgan Williams, Rev. Hardy Phillips. Soon after this the congregation began to disband feeling that it was the end of a perfect day. Mr. Phillips received many attractive and useful gifts and scores of wishes for many happy returns of June the 9th. Hearty congratulations are due to Mrs. C. N. Phillips and daughter, Mrs. Abb Preston who planned this splendid celebration. Those sharing the pleasures of this joyous occasion were: Mr. and Mrs. S.E.J.
