John H. Culpepper and T.H. Tyler made a business trip to Buena Vista this week. Messrs. Frank and Oscar Tyler visited relatives in Pine Knot recently. The family of Mr. M.T. Fielder has been quite sick with lagrippe this week. Mr. Raiford will move his family here when his home is completed. He is engaged in the turpentine business. Miss Ida Gun began school at this place last Monday with a very good attendance. Mr. Duncan Phillips visited his daughter at this place last week. Mr. Roberson is visiting family in Savannah this week. The Marion County Patriot, No. 3 Friday, January 31, 1908 Page Five Pine Knot Messrs. Frank Hale and T.H. Tyler made a business trip to Columbus last week. Joel and Clarence Culpepper went down to Brantley last Sunday. Miss Susie Mae Fielder, of Hogansville, Ga., was the guest of relatives here recently. Miss Clyde Blythe, of Box Springs, Ga., and Mrs. Susie Hart, of Paschal, Ga., was the guest of relatives here last week. Miss Addie Kemp is expected home next Saturday from Alabama, where she has been on an extended visit to relatives. The little infant of Mr. and Mrs. Averette died at their home near here Sunday. The interment was in Mt. Zion cemetery Monday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Elder. Mr. A.W. Cannon continues quite feeble. Mrs. Hundley is some better at this writing. Mr. Sam Harris, of Short’s Mill, was in our vicinity last Sunday. Dr. A.B. Gordy, of Butler, Ga., was down on Pine Knot last Saturday. Mr. Frank Greer has bought himself a nice young mule. Misses Gussie Pope and Gussie Greer and Mr. John Greer was seen riding through our vicinity last Saturday. Mr. Lane Talbot passed through our section last Monday. Mr. J.T. Harbuck and son, Willie, went up to Columbus last week. Mrs. Shipp, of Talbot County, was the guest of her niece, Mrs. E.F. Johnson here recently. The Marion County Patriot, No. 4 Friday, February 7, 1908 Page Eight Pine Knot Mr. Will Patterson, of Box Spring, was down on Pine Knot last week doing some surveying for Messrs. Pope and Turner. Mr. Bill Phillips, of near Upatoie was in our section Saturday on business. Mr. Charlie Moore, of Brantley, passed through our section Saturday enroute home. We are glad to note that Old Uncle Billie Gallops is some better at this writing. Misses Delia and Mattie Harbuck and Miss Ida Gurr visited the Misses Johnson last Saturday. Mr. W.B. Mathews has closed out his interest in turpentine business and will go to Atlanta, where he will engage in other lines of business. Messrs. J.A. and H.F. Tyler passed through our vicinity last Thursday on their way home from Columbus. There was an entertainment given at the home of Mr. M.V. Weed’s Saturday night. Those present were: Misses Ida Gurr, Ida Greene, Delia and Mattie Harbuck, Alice and Hellie Cannon, Emma Tyler, Liza Johnson and Mae Weed. Messrs. Charlie Harbuck, Joel and Clarence Culpepper, John Weed, Ralph Cannon, Ause Weed, Tom Tyler and Dave Green. They report a good time. Mr. Frank Hale is reported quite ill at his home near here. Miss Emma Tyler visited Miss Ida Greene Saturday night and Sunday. Miss Liza J. Johnson visited Miss Mattie Harbuck Saturday night and Sunday. Messrs. Lon, Mark and Mage Fielder made a business trip to Buena Vista Saturday. Mr. Willie Harbuck visited down near Brantley Saturday and Sunday. The Marion County Patriot, No. 5 Friday, February 14, 1908 Page Six Pine Knot Mr. Frank Hale is improving. Mr. C.C. Greene and family, of Taylor County, were the guests of relatives here recently. Mr. J.H. Carnes died at his home near Pine Knot Springs February 5th. He is survived by a host of sorrowing relatives. Miss Addie Kemp returned home last Saturday from Alabama, where she enjoyed an extended visit with relatives. Uncle Billie Morgan died at his home last Sunday, after a brief illness from old age. He is survived by four sons, Jim, Tom, Charles and William Morgan, and two daughters, Mrs. Wes Harris, of Columbus and Miss Mattie Morgan. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Johnson visited relatives near here recently. Mr. R.B. Rayper and family, of Brooklet, Ga., will move to the turpentine still as soon as their residence is completed. The Marion County Patriot, No. 7 Friday, February 28, 1908 Page Six Pine Knot Mr. Brooks Stringfellow and Miss Ola Pate were united in marriage at the home of Mr. Lon Fielder last Sunday afternoon. Miss Pate is a beautiful and accomplished young lady, while Mr. Stringfellow is a most prosperous young farmer. Their many friends wish for them a long and happy life. Miss Liza Johnson visited Misses Nora and Emma Tyler last Wednesday night. Mr. J.H. Culpepper made a business trip to Buena Vista recently. Mr. Jim King and sister, Miss Ada, visited at the home of J.H. Culpepper last week. There was preaching at Mt. Zion Saturday and Sunday. Miss Emma Tyler visited at the home of Mrs. R.P. Rayper last Saturday. Mr. Frank Hale has gone to Columbus to have his head treated. Mr. John Jenkins, of Box Springs, and Miss Gussie Greer, of near Upatoie, were united in marriage last Sunday at the home of the bride’s parents. Mr. Jenkins is a prosperous young farmer, while Miss Greer is a most charming young lady. Their many friends wish for them a long and happy life. The family of Mr. J.W. Tyler have all been very sick for the last week. Mr. B.B. Hudson, of Box Spring, has moved to Cataula. We are glad to know that Miss Lila Carnes is convalescing after a severe illness. Mr. Nathan Ledbetter, of Columbus, was the guest of friends here last week. Mark Fielder’s mule became frightened at something last Monday night as he was returning home from Cusseta, and demolished his buggy and came very near killing him. Howard Johnson, of near Eelbeck, visited at the home of Mr. A.W. Cannon last Sunday evening. Will Patterson, of near Box Springs, was the guest of relatives down on Pine Knot last Sunday. Mrs. Mattie Morgan visited her mother, Mrs. Pope, last Saturday and Sunday. Frank Hale returned home Sunday from Columbus, where he has been having Dr. Mitchel to treat his head. Ause Weed is the proud possessor of a new horse and buggy. A party of gentlemen from Columbus enjoyed a dove shoot at Lon Fielder’s last Monday. Mr. Blythe, of Paschal, is reported quite ill at his home. Joe Fielder is reported quite ill at his home at Box Spring. J.W. Tyler made a trip to Buena Vista Thursday. Miss Ida Gurr visited homefolks at Waverly Hall Saturday and Sunday. Miss Viola Stone, of near Brantley, visited her sister, Mrs. J.H. Culpepper recently. Tyler made a trip to Buena Vista one day last week. Mr. Joel Culpepper is visiting relatives near Brantley this week. Messrs. A.A. and Thomas H. Tyler went up to Columbus one day this week. Tyler, of Autryville, will return home in the near future. Mrs. E.F. Johnson visited her grandmother in Talbot County last Saturday and Sunday. Mr. N.A. Ledbetter, of Columbus, was the guest of friends here one day last week. Mr. McDaniel, of near Parade Springs, was in our section last week on business. Miss Willie McGlaun and Mr. Ause Weed spent the day at Mr. Lon Fielder’s last Sunday. Mr. M.T. Fielder purchased a fine mule last week. We are glad to note that Mr. Joe Fielder, of Box Spring, who has been very ill is now convalescing. Mr. Brooks Stringfellow and wife, of Glenalta, was the guest of relatives here recently. Mr. Charlie Harbuck and sister went down to Buena Vista last Friday to have some dental work done. Mr. Willie Harbuck visited friends near Brantley Sunday. Mr. Willie Harbuck and sister, Miss Mattie, and Miss Liza Johnson made a pleasant trip to Box Spring Saturday. Mr. Fletcher Harris visited at the home of J.W. Tyler Saturday. Mr. Herbert Greene, of Columbus, visited homefolks here the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Greene and children, of Mauk, visited relatives here recently. Emmett Johnson and Alonzo Tyler visited at the home of Mr. Brown Sunday. The little two months old infant of Mr. and Mrs. George Harbuck died last Wednesday night of whooping cough. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of their many friends. Quite a large crowd enjoyed themselves at Brown Spring Chapel last Sunday. Messrs. M.V. Weed and T.H. Tyler made a business trip to Buena Vista recently. Mr. Charlie Greene and family, of Mauk’s Level, were the guests of friends and relatives here recently. Mr. M.T. Fielder made a business trip to Columbus last week. There will be a picnic at Pine Knot Springs on the McMurrian place the second Saturday in June, given by T.H. Tyler and R.B. Rayper, music to be made by a string band. Everybody cordially invited. We hope to have a good crop and a prosperous year. We are glad to note the improvement of Mr. A.W. Cannon, who has been quite indisposed for the last three years. A party of people from Columbus are enjoying a few days vacation from business at Pine Knot Springs. Mr. Jim Hogg, of Buena Vista, passed through our section last Thursday enroute to Upatoie. Mr. N.A. Ledbetter, of Columbus, was the guests of friends here recently. Mr. Herbert Greene, of Columbus, visited his parents at this place last week. Mr. I.W. Turner, of near Parade Spring, was in our vicinity last Thursday on business. Mrs. S.D. Pope and daughter, Mrs. Z.T. Morgan, are visiting relatives in South Georgia. Miss Lizzie Melton and brother, Tom, of near Tazewell, were the guests of relatives here last Saturday and Sunday. There will be a picnic at Pine Knot Springs on the S.D. McMurrian place, July 4th, given by Messrs. W.T. and G.O. Harbuck. Music furnished by a string band. Everybody come and bring somebody with you. Miss Jessie Talbot, of Columbus, was the guest of the Misses Cannon last week. Mr. Clarence Perkins, of near Uno, Ga., was the guest of Mr. David Greene Saturday night and Sunday. Mr. Joe Belk, of Common Wealth, passed through our vicinity last week. Misses Dovie and Alice Cannon, Messrs. Ralph Cannon and Mobley Culpepper visited at the home of Mrs. D.C. Gordy Saturday night the 19th inst. Mr. M.S. Walker, a prominent saw-mill man, has moved his sawmill over near County Line church, and will continue to make lumber. Mr. Edgar Robinson went up to Mauk Saturday on business. Mr. John M. Taylor, a progressive farmer of near Japanese, passed through our vicinity last Monday, enroute to Columbus. Miss Jessie Shippey, of Webster County, is the guest of relatives here this week. Mr. Ab Phillips, of near Waverly Hall, is the guest of relatives here. Mr. Joe Cannon and wife, of Doerun, are the guests of his parents here this week. Protracted meeting commences at Mt. Zion next Saturday. Miss Smith, of Columbus, is the guest of friends here this week. The picnic at Parade Spring last Thursday was well attended and all enjoyed themselves. Mr. Chas.
