Amandus P. Belk Dead

Mr. Amandus P. Belk died at his home in this county sometime during Wednesday 
night, October the 5th, and was buried at Brantly on the evening of the 6th, 
but information was not received at this office in time for publication in last 
issue.

He was an odd character in some respects, especially on the subject of 
religion.  He was a spiritualist and universalist in faith, and was bitterly 
antagonistic to all the Christian denominations.

He served through two wars and was a brave and fearless soldier.  He had only a 
few months ago become a pensioner, under the new pension laws, for his services 
in the Mexican war.

Whatever else may be said of Mr. Belk, he was a good neighbor, an honest man 
and was respected by all who knew him.  He had been married three times, his 
last wife surviving him.  His first and second wives were sisters, the second 
being a widow at the time Mr. Belk married her, and his last wife was a 
daughter of his second wife by her former husband.

Mr. Belk was about sixty years of age and leaves twelve children living.
