It was not thought however, that he would survive through the night. He has been sick now four months and a half in a perfectly helpless condition. The Marion County Patriot, No. 21 May 24, 1889 Page Three We made mention in last week’s paper that Eddie Butt was dying, and by the time the paper went to press news came that the spirit of the little fellow had winged its flight to that borne from whence no traveler returneth. The amount of suffering the little fellow has gone through during his illness will never be known, as he has been in such a condition since he was first taken sick eighteen weeks ago that he could not make known his wants nor his sufferings. While it is hard to give up loved ones little Eddie is better off than he would have been had he survived his illness, as it is a common acceptation among the doctors that he would have been a physical wreck. Col. Butt has been tried with the patience of Job, yet during all his afflictions he has borne them patiently and without a murmur, yielding submissively to the will of Him, who “doeth all things well.” It has been only about five or six weeks ago since his wife’s spirit was transported to its immortal home, and now the spirit of little Eddie has gone to meet his angel mother. His remains were buried at the Methodist cemetery last Friday afternoon at 5 o’clock, the funeral services being performed by Rev. C.H. Branch and Rev. W.B. Merritt, and a large number of the friends of the family were present. The sympathy of the people goes out to Col. Butt and the entire family in their affliction in the loss of a loved one.
