A memorial service was held on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Buena Vista. Interment followed at Kate Smith – Battle Memorial Park with family only. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Andrew Merritt Huggins, John Barry Kirkland, Bradford Ralph Lawhorn, Jeffrey Harrison May, Michael Levon Wyrick, and Seargent Stanwix Austin McGlaun. Mrs. Claxton was born June 21, 1952 in Butler, Georgia to Thomas Miller and Inez Foster Bryan. She grew up in Marion County and had lived in the area for the last 12 years. She was Baptist by faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Buena Vista. She owned and operated Bobby Jones Insurance Company. She enjoyed entertaining friends and had a knack for hospitality. She also loved dancing. Her other hobbies included delivering meals to her elderly friends, cross-stitching and gardening. She loved to can summer vegetables and fruits which she shared with family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Stanwix W. McGlaun, her two sons, Britt Wayne Claxton and Leslie Gerald Claxton and wife Kelly Sanchez, all of Statesboro, Georgia; a granddaughter, Rylie Ann Marjorie Claxton of Statesboro; her mother, Inez Foster Bryan and husband James of Grayson, Georgia; her father, Thomas Miller and wife Linda of Buena Vista; a sister Arlene M. Kirkland and husband John of Stone Mountain, Georgia; a nephew, Barry Kirkland and wife Adrienne of Auburn, Alabama; a niece, Brandie May and husband Jeff of Mobile, Alabama; and beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
