Rayford Frank Cummings, 91, of Box Springs, GA, died Friday, January 23, 2009, 
at his residence.

Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Tante Funeral Home on Monday, 
January 26, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Bob Powell officiating.  Burial 
immediately followed in Buena Vista Cemetery. The family received friends at 
Tante Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon.  Serving as active pallbearers were 
his grandsons: Gerald Rome, Paxton Arnette, James Arnette, Joshua North, 
Joseph Cummings, Jeffrey Hanaford, and Cody North. Windell Nasworthy served as 
an honorary pallbearer.

Mr. Cummings was born June 23, 1917, in Brooks County, Georgia, to James and 
Rebecca Rosencrantz Cummings. An Army veteran, he served during World War II 
and was a German POW for 17 months.   He was involved in the 650 mile march. 
He was employed at Ford Motor Company in Hapeville, GA for over 22 years. 
Coming from Forest Park, GA, he had lived in Box Springs for 33 years. He was 
Baptist by faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 
wife of 53 years, Bernice Cummings and by two daughters, Patricia Williams and 
Janice Hanaford.

Survivors include a son, Donnie R. Cummings, two daughters, Lakeeta North and 
Tonya McCoy, all of Box Springs, GA and a sister, Lois Cummings of Moultrie, 
GA. Ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia, was in charge of arrangements.
