Buena Vista, GA – Leonard Newton Evans III, 57, of Buena Vista, GA, died 
Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at his residence.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 6, 2009, at 4:00 p.m., at New 
Providence Baptist Church, in Marion County with Reverend David Chapman and 
Reverend Don Wilson officiating. Music was provided by Sherry McAllister on 
piano and Dan Bray on bagpipes. Burial followed in New Providence Cemetery. 
Serving as pallbearers were Ben McLemore, Randy Gay, Chris Chapman, Caleb 
Chapman, Bryan Wilson, and Joey Recker. The family received friends at Tante 
Funeral Home on Sunday evening.

Mr. Evans was born June 27, 1951, in Fairfield, Alabama, to Leonard Newton and 
Sarah Pauline Blanton Evans, Jr.  He worked with Seismic Crew out west before 
returning to Plains, GA, to earn his Masters Degree in Education. He was a 
school teacher for 20 years and had taught science in the Marion County school 
system. Coming from Plains, he had lived in Marion County for the past nine 
and a half years.  He was Baptist by faith and a member of New Providence 
Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a 
sister, Sarah Evans Gay.

He is survived by his wife, Annette McLemore Evans of Buena Vista, GA; a son, 
Matthew Ryan Evans (Tiffany Gleeson), currently serving in Iraq; by his Father-
 and Mother- in-law, David and Dorothy McLemore of Plains, GA; by one brother, 
Paul Milton Evans (Martha) of Headland, AL; by three sisters, Ellen Evans 
Thomas of Columbus, GA, Laura Evans Strickland of Dothan AL, and Martha Evans 
Lutze (Richard) of Phenix City, AL; by two brothers-in-law, Wylie McLemore and 
David H. McLemore III (Dana) both of Americus, GA; by a sister-in-law, Dale 
Chapman (David) of Buena Vista, GA. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
