Luz Mercado Ponce Garcia, age 89, of Box Springs, formerly of New York, died 
on Friday, December 10, 2010 at Stewart Webster Hospital in Richland, Georgia. 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 13, 2010, in the 
Chapel of Tante Funeral Home with Reverend Greg Lowery officiating.  Burial 
followed in Brown Springs Church of God Cemetery. The family received friends 
at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Garcia was born July 28, 1921, in Isabella, Puerto Rico, to Juan and 
Carmen Delvalle Mercado. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking and sewing. 
She also loved taking care of children and keeping a beautiful home. Coming 
from New York, she had been living in Box Springs for the past 5 years. She 
was preceded in death by her husbands, Luis Ponce, Sr. and Pablo Garcia, by 
two sons, Oscar Ponce and Martin Ponce, and by two brothers, Esteban Mercado.

She is survived by three sons, Luis R. Ponce, Jr. of PA, Angel Luis Ponce of 
FL, and Edwin Ponce of IL; two daughters, Amanda Ponce Arce of GA and Brunilda 
P. Cortes of NY; two brothers, Juan Mercado of FL and Gregorio Mercado of 
Puerto Rico; and by four sisters Carmen Quijino and Rosa Santiago of Puerto 
Rico and Antonia Vega and Lydia Delgado, both of FL. Several grandchildren and 
great grandchildren also survive.

Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista was in charge of arrangements.
