Box 382 Buena Vista, GA 31803 Phone (229)649-2478 Fax (229)649-2446 Richland, GA - Betty Slocumb Geeslin, 49, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the family home in Louvale, GA. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Lumpkin First Baptist Church in Lumpkin, GA with Rev. Wayne Williams and Rev. Sherry Witherington officiating. Special music was provided by Martha Jordan, Kim Kimmel and Wanda Singer. Interment followed in Louvale Cemetery in Louvale. Serving as pallbearers were Jesse Riles, Joey Riles, Jeff Pate, John Richardson, Rusty Henson, and Charles “Duttie” Pate. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Lumpkin First Baptist, Charlie Miller, Willie Ashew, Dr. Alluri Raju, Dr. Terry Wilkey, Jackie Berry, Tom Pate, Russ Henson and Johnny Singer. Visitation was at the home of Chris and Jeralyn Buchan, 617 Old Louvale Road, Louvale, GA. Betty was born September 19, 1960 in Richland to Raymond Cole and Johnnie Richardson Slocumb. She received her Nursing Degree from Columbus State University in 1981 and worked at the Columbus Medical Center as a Registered Nurse until 1983, at which time she went to Stewart Webster Hospital in Richland. She recently retired from Stewart Webster Hospital after 26 years of service where she served in multiple positions including Director of Nursing and Hospital Administrator.  She has been a volunteer and advocate with the American Cancer Society since 1991 and she was honored to be a participant in the first Relay on the Hill in Washington, DC.  She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Chuck Geeslin, who has been a devoted partner for 26 years; by her sister and her friend Sybil Buchan Ammons (Wayne) of Lumpkin; by her “surrogate” children Thomas Christopher Buchan (Jeralyn) and their children Hannah and Amelia of Louvale and Blake Richardson Buchan  (Christy) and their children Andrew and Mason of Louvale; and by a brother-in-law Bob Geeslin (Bari) of Lumpkin; and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Riles (Eddie) of Lumpkin and Rebecca Buchan (Windal) of Louvale. She is also survived by her nephews Joey Riles, Jesse Riles, Brady Buchan and Will Miller. Donations may be made in memory of Betty to the American Cancer Society, Louvale Cemetery Fund or to Lumpkin First Baptist Church. Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, GA was in charge of arrangements.
