Internment followed immediately in the Buena Vista Cemetery. The family received friends at Tante Funeral Home on Wednesday evening. A lifelong resident of Marion County, Mr. Hanner was born May 26, 1923, to Alto, Sr. and Bessie Powell Hanner. He served in the US Army in World War II and was retired as Postmaster of Buena Vista. He was a jack-of-all trades and had been under practically every house in the area. He was an excellent carpenter and he could built anything; 9 out of 10 times, he never charged anyone for his services. He built Oakland Church of God. Methodist by faith, he was a member of Buena Vista Untied Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Johnson, Alcene Hagler, and Pearl Lowe Pearson. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Wells Hanner; a son, Tim and MArtha Hanner, of McDonough, GA; two daughter, Cindy and Chandler Haulk and Marie and Ricky McCorkle, both of Buena Vista; four brothers- Averitt and Jeanette Hanner and Royce and Betty Jean Hanner all of Ashburn, GA; Boyce and Agnes Hanner of Buena Vista and Cecil and Benda Hanner of Columbus; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Tante Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with Philip Hanner, Kevin Haulk, Jeremy Haulk, Richard McCorkle, Stuart Gibbo, and Ben Bidgoly serving as active pallbearers.
