Hicks, Jr. Born: Wed Feb 16, 1944 Died: Mon May 27, 2013 Funeral Service 3:00 PM Sat Jun 08, 2013 Location: New Providence Baptist Church Dock W. Hicks, Jr., 69, of Buena Vista, GA, went home to be with his gracious Lord on Monday, May 27, 2013. A memorial funeral service will be held at New Providence Baptist Church on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 3:00 PM with his friend and pastor, Rev. David Chapman, officiating. Mr. Hicks was born on 16 February 1944 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Dock W. Hicks, Sr. and Graciela Garcia Hicks, both deceased. He was a retired veteran of the U. S. Army and was previously employed at Ft. Benning, GA, from where he also retired in 1999. And his greatest accomplishment was becoming a Christian on 28 June 2001. He leaves behind his young and beautiful wife, Polly; six children, James W. Hicks, Teresa L. Wallace (Jeremy), Dan Singleton (Maria), Mary Beth Thornton, Carollynn Heath (Joey) and Maggie Elizabeth Halterman; seven grandchildren, Kyle Boehm, Brandon Black, Lane Black, Gavin Thornton, Charity Thornton, Julia Grace and Harper Singleton; his favorite sister, Grace Sheridan (Clifford); his extended family, Melody Murray, Jeff, Suzanne, Jonathan, Angie, Ryan, and Isabelle and all of their beautiful girls and the one and only boy; three puppies who he will miss dearly, Rag, Monk, and Mule (all brothers); a small herd of cats, and a handful of friends. In lieu of flowers or memorials, he would sincerely prefer if you are in a giving or sentimental mood to just do an act of kindness to help someone in need when the opportunity comes along remembering always we are to freely give as we have freely received. And you might also consider rescuing a stray puppy! Watson-Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista is in charge of arrangements with his special friends Robbie McCorkle, Paul Baublitz, Al Harvey, Jeff Murray, Jonathan Murray, Steve Young, and Ryan Underwood as honorary pallbearers even though he made arrangements many years ago to be cremated. So he leaves you with the full assurance he is in Heaven thanks only, and he says again only, to God’s grace. He now reaps the benefits of his undeserved salvation and pray all of you will one day also. Salvation is really a now-or-never choice and yes, it’s a hard choice for some of us, but he can tell you honestly, it’s not only a good choice, the right choice, but it’s the only real choice! May the Lamb of God bless all of you richly.
