Myrtle Jernigan Icard December 2, 1930- September 21, 2007 BUENA VISTA, GA—
Myrtle Jernigan Icard, 76, of Buena Vista, died Friday, September 21, 2007 at 
Vistacare Center at Franciscan Woods in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be 
held Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at New Providence Baptist Church 
with Reverend David Chapman officiating. Music will be provided by Sara 
Lumsden. Interment will follow in the Buena Vista Cemetery. Mrs. Icard was born 
December 2, 1930 and lived in Marion County all of her life. She was the 
daughter of the late Elisha Redding and Nettie Lucile Jernigan. She was a 
member of New Providence Baptist Church and was a Southern Baptist. She was a 
dedicated mother and she loved to cook. In her lifetime, she worked at a bank 
and was a bookkeeper for Hamp Stevens. She was a beautician for 45 years and 
also served as secretary of New Providence Baptist Church. She will be 
remembered for the thousands of cards and letters she sent to people all across 
the United States. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a 
son, Glenn B. "Bernie" Icard, Jr. and by her husband of 59 years, Glenn Icard. 
Two brothers, Marvin Jernigan and Melvin Jernigan also preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Icard is survived by three sons, Gregory B. and Sheryl Icard of Laurel 
Hill, NC, Rex M. and Lisa Icard of Dawson, GA, and Ron B. and Kelli Icard of 
Woodstock, GA; one daughter, Sherry and Tommy McAllister of Buena Vista; a 
daughter-in-law, Linda Icard of Jonesboro, GA; two brothers, Bob and Jeanne 
Jernigan and Wayne and Lavonne Jernigan, all of Buena Vista. She is also 
survived by ten grandchildren, Gregory R. and Ginny Icard of Laurinburg, NC, 
Jamie and Marie Icard and Dustin Icard all of Laurel Hill, Melissa McAllister 
and Seth McAllister, both of Buena Vista; Lauren Icard of Ann Arbor, MI, Keaton 
Icard and Hunter Icard of Dawson, Austin Icard and Logan Icard of Woodstock; 
and by six great-grandchildren, Tyler Icard, Joshua Icard, Jacob Icard, Shannon 
Icard, Cade Icard, and Karli Icard. The family requests that those who wish to 
give memorial gifts make them in memory of Mrs. Icard to either the ALS 
Association, 1955 Cliff Valley Way, Suite 116, Atlanta, GA 30329 or to the 
Muscular Dystrophy Association, P.O. Box JERRY, Phoenix, AZ 85062-1111. Tante 
Funeral Home of Buena Vista is in charge of arrangements.
