He had frequently signified his intention of ending his life by his own hands, and only a few days before he committed the rash act he had a rope with which to hang himself, but was prevented from doing so by the family. He said he would drown himself in the creek, and was watched on one occasion, but did not do so and the family thought he would not resort to that extremity. On the day that he committed suicide he place a stick near the edge of the water upon which he hung his hat and jumped in. This was 10 o’clock in the morning and his body was found about noon a few yards below. There is no cause assigned for the rash act, except that he was very old and his mind was not sound.
