Johnson, living about two miles from Juniper, and well known to many of our readers, was killed in a well on Edgar Chalkley’s place on Wednesday the 6th. Mr. Johnson was cleaning out the old well intending to dig it some deeper, when it caved in, pushing the boards up against. He cried for help but before sufficient help could reach him he was dead. He leaves a wife and five children, two of whom are married. The Marion County Patriot, No. 1 Friday, January 15, 1909 Page Four Mt. Olive News On Thursday morning, Jan. 7, one of the saddest accidents ever happened in this community, occurred to Mr. John Johnson, at the home of J.E. Chalkley. Mr. Johnson was cleaning out a well, which caved in on him, suffocating him. He is survived by a wife and five children – Mrs. John Johnson, Mrs. Viola Hamilton, Mrs. Jennie Melvin, Messrs. Henry, John Jr., and Edward Johnson, and also a host of relatives and friends. We feel that our loss is his gain. Additional Comments: Transcriber's note: Both articles list a different date of death for Mr. Johnson. I'm not a researcher of this family and don't know the correct date.
