John David Lewis, age 87, of Waverly, Alabama, died Saturday, October 24, 2009 
in Buena Vista, Georgia at his daughter’s home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM Central Time 
at  Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church in Ashland, Alabama, with 
Military Honors.  Burial immediately followed in the church cemetery. The 
family received friends at Tante Funeral Home, Wednesday October 28, from 5:00 
to 7:00 and at the church from 11:00 AM until funeral time on Thursday.

Mr. Lewis was born March 7, 1922, the son of William Faulton & Episy Cordelia 
Lewis.  He had lived in Crisp County until 1962 and moved to Alabama and 
resided until 2004 when he moved to Buena Vista with his daughter. While 
living in Alabama, he owned and operated a farm. He later sold the farm and 
became a carpenter.  Working through the South East, he also became a 
supervisor working for Concrete Metal Forms building commercial buildings. 
After retiring from construction, he had a logging business. He was an Army 
Veteran of World War II, and the widower of Steller Elizabeth Hayes Lewis. In 
addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by nine brothers and 
seven sisters.

Survivors include his sons: David Wayne Lewis and Vickie of Auburn, Alabama, 
John Wendell Lewis, Notasulga, Alabama; daughters, Myrtle Marie Underwood, 
Buena Vista, Georgia, Nita Faye Denson and Mitch, Lineville, Alabama, Judy 
Darleen Ingram and Brian, Auburn, Alabama; brother, Lewis Daniel Lewis, 
Cordele, Georgia; sisters, Margaret Virginia Shaddix, Americus, Georgia, and 
Lula Mae Jones, Cordele, Ga.; 15 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren, and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.
