John Henry Metheny, age 68, of Mauk, Georgia died early Saturday, September 5, 
2009,  at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Georgia.  

A memorial service was held Monday September 7, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Rev. 
Mark Sasser officiating.

Mr. Metheny was born November 29, 1940, the son of the late James Chester and 
Ida Marie Trout Metheny.   Mr. Metheny retired from the Navy serving over 20 
years during Vietnam War.  At retirement, he was a Chief Petty Officer.  He 
had lived in Mauk for the past eight years and was Methodist by faith. In 
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth Sines 
and Sadie Garrett, brothers, James Metheny, Richard Metheny, and Francis 
Metheny.

Survivors include his sisters Betty Hovatte and husband Zane of Kingwood,West 
Virginia, Edith W. Trout of Kingwood, West Virginia, Mary Hockaday and husband 
Alvin of Mauk, Georgia.
Several nieces nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia was in charge of arrangements.
