Death of Mr. McComb

Mr. Andrew T. McComb died at the home of his son, Mr. A.D. McComb, last Sunday 
morning at 4 o’clock, after an illness of about one week.  He had the grip last 
winter and before he had fully recovered from that he took dysentery about a 
week before his death, and owing to his extreme age he could not overcome the 
effects of these diseases.

Mr. McComb was a native of South Carolina and his father moved to Heard County, 
this state, when the subject of this sketch was a youth, the elder McComb being 
one of the pioneer settlers of that county.  He was 84 years old last February 
and was a remarkable old gentleman up to his recent illness.  He was an 
industrious old man and he could always be seen working his garden or patches.  
He hoed out his corn patch on the eighth day previous to his death.

He was a member of the Methodist church and he died the death of a peaceful 
Christian man who had hope of a better life beyond the grave.

His funeral was preached at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock 
by Rev. R.L. Wiggins and his remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near 
that church.  A large number of our citizens were present.  To the bereaved 
family the Patriot extends its sympathy.

watched by the bedside of our dear father during his illness and death, and 
these acts of kindness and Christian love will long be cherished in our hearts.
