"Aunt Flora" was a former slave, having been born in Marion county on the plantation of Thomas Harvey in 1847. Her mother cooked for the Harvey household prior to 1860. She has been ill and physically incapacitated from doing any work for about a year, prior to which she was active in doing her housework. "Aunt Flora" nursed the late Mrs. Mollie F. Short, mother of Mrs. R. P. Stevens of Buena Vista, when Mrs. Short was a baby, some 80 years ago. She was honored and respected by all who knew her.
