Lowe, for many years Ordinary of Marion County, died Monday at his home here, age 74 years. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at ten o’clock at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. J.W. Western and the remains were laid to rest in the Methodist cemetery. Mr. Lowe had been prominent in Sunday school for many years and was a Steward in the Methodist church at the time of his death. He joined the Confederate army at the beginning of the “War between the States” and served until he lost his right leg. He was twice married; his first wife was Miss Evelyn Rushin, and five daughters blessed this union, all of whom survive him. His second wife was Mrs. Carrie Smith, who died about ten years ago. Just after the war he engaged in the mercantile business in Buena Vista and continued in it until about nine years ago, since which time he was engaged in farming. He was a leading factor in organizing the Buena Vista Loan & Savings Bank and the building of the Buena Vista & Ellaville Railroad and was the first president of these corporations. For many years he was chairman of the board of County Commissioners and also of the City Board of Education. The funeral was attended in a body by the local Camp Confederate Veterans and the local U.D.C. and by a large concourse of friends and acquaintances. The Patriot extends its sympathies. – Marion County Patriot This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
