Buena Vista, GA- Mr. Jimmy Powell, age 75, of Buena Vista, Georgia, passed 
away Friday, May 27, 2011, at his home. His funeral service will be held at 
3:00PM Sunday, May 29, 2011, at Union United Methodist Church with Reverend 
John Homer, Reverend Bill Harris and Clyde Powell officiating. Burial will 
follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends at Watson-Tante 
Funeral Home in Buena Vista from 6-8 PM, Saturday, May 28, 2011.
Mr. Powell was born in Marion County on March 16, 1936, to the late Harvey M. 
and Clara Simmons Powell. He graduated from Marion County High School in 1954, 
and married Jean Pope Powell.He was a lifelong member of Union United 
Methodist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 
three brothers: Wilbur, Clark and Hubert Powell.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Pope Powell, daughter Debra Powell (Rick 
Valentine) of Fortson, GA; son, Gary Powell (Amy), of Buena Vista, GA; four 
grandchildren: Jami Shivers (Casey), Laci Holguin (Jeff), Scott Valentine and 
Joshua Powell; and two great grandchildren: Jeanna Kate and Clara Grace 
Shivers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion County Recreation 
Department, P.O. Box 451, Buena Vista, GA 31803, or to Vista Care Hospice, 100 
Brookstone Centre Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904. You may sign the online guest
