A graveside funeral service will be held Sunday, December 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Buena Vista Cemetery with Reverend Chris Hess and Reverend Mark Chandler officiating. The family will receive friends at Tante Funeral Home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Prior was born December 9, 1935 in Hillsborough County, Florida to Arthur Lee and Mary Jeanette Phillips Prior. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Vernon Twynam Prior, Jr. and Everett David Prior; two brothers, Arthur Lee Prior and Herbert Prior; and one sister, Jacqueline Balmer. He had lived in Buena Vista for 31 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corp. and was a member of Columbus Masonic Lodge 727. He loved fishing and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Sherrill Ellis Prior; two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Coleman and husband Marc Allen of Alabaster, AL and Patricia Ann Hays and husband Jerry Mac of Buena Vista; four brothers, Bill Prior and wife Mary of Brooksville, FL, Fred Prior and wife Emma of North Carolina, Everett Prior of South Carolina and Maurice of Punta Gorda, FL; four sisters, Ruby Catherine Welch of Old Town, FL, Jeanette Koener of Punta Gorda, FL, Emily O’Brian of Buford, SC and Patricia Girard of Smithfield, VA. Five grandchildren, Brian Hays, Nicole Hays Morrison and husband Kane, Jonathan Simmons and wife Alicia, David Neil Simmons and Andrea Skates and husband John Michael, also survive him, as well as one great grandchild, Landon Morrison and two step grandchildren, Will and Kyle.
