The Fitzgerald Herald Fitzgerald, Ben Hill County, Georgia Thursday, August 11, 1964 Front Page Methodist rites for Mrs. Pryor Funeral services for Mrs. Shepherd Green Pryor, Jr., 75 were held Saturday, August 8, at 3 p.m. at Central Methodist Church. The pastor, Rev. Ned Steele, assisted by Rev. Wade Scott, officiated and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Members of the Nathaniel Abney Chapter D. A. R. attended the funeral in a body and rituals were said at the cemetery with Mrs. Silas Hearne and Mrs. Basil Steed in charge. Pallbearers were Jack Massee, Owen Seagraves, J. W. Fountain, D. L. Paulk, Jr. Ethridge Paulk, and Harvey Jay. Mrs. Pryor died at Ben Hill County hospital Friday, August 7, being hospitalized since July 27, following an extended illness. A native of Marion county, Mrs. Pryor was the former Jeffie Persons, daughter of the late John T. and Sarah Pickard Persons. One of the community’s most beloved and honored matrons, Mrs. Pryor was society eitor of the Fitzgerald Herald since 1916, woking with her husband, the late S. G. Pryor Jr., long time editor of the publication. She had continued her work until about a month ago. She was most active in church, civic and club work, being named “Woman of the Year” in 1981. Mrs. Pryor was a past regent and president of Nathaniel Abney Chapter D. A. R. and Ben Hill Chapter U. D. C. She was a charter member of the Review Club and Garden Study Club, and had served as president and circle leader of the W. S. C. S. of Central Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, S. G. Pryor, III of Atlaanta; two daughters, Mrs. Jack Mathis of Columbus and Mrs. John W. Spence of Barrington, Ill.; two brothers, C. C. Persons of Fitzgerald and Victor H. Persons of Toledo, Ohio; a sister Mrs. Eva P. Cole of Atlanta, and eight grandchildren. Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. His grandfather was Shepherd Green Pryor (1828-1911) he's buried in the DeSoto Methodist Church Cemetery at DeSoto, Sumter County, Georgia.
