Box 382 Buena Vista, GA 31803 Phone (229)649-2478 Fax (229)649-2446 Oliver Richard Rogers, age 82, of Box Springs, Georgia went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Magnolia Manor of Marion County. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM Brown Springs Church of God with Rev.Greg Lowery and Mike Toomey officiating. Burial followed in Brown Springs Cemetery, Box Springs, Georgia. The Family received friends at Brown Springs Church of God Church on Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Pallbearers were Timothy Toomey, Joshua Toomey, Jim Allen, Jr., Benjamin Allen, Jonathan Allen, Anthony Allen and Michael Wooddell. Honorary Pallbears will be Houston Jones and Leon Rogers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Magnolia Manor of Marion County in memory of Mr. Rogers. Mr. Rogers was born April 6, 1928, in Sumter County, the son of the late Feddie and Dollie Causey Rogers. He had lived in Marion County most of his life and served his country in the Korean War from 1952-1953 and was awarded the Purple Heart for the wounds he suffered in combat. He also was awarded a Bronze Star with a V devise for heroism in ground combat. He was Church of God by faith. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Rogers of Box Springs, GA; three sons, Ricky Rogers and Bronwen of Phenix City, Alabama, Ronnie Rogers and Patsy, Donald Lee Rogers and Joan all of Box Springs, GA; three daughters, Cathy Toomey and Mike, Lynn Allen and Jimmy both of Box Springs, GA, Reba Christian of Columbus, GA; one brother, Leon Rogers of Box Springs, GA; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Jones of Shiloh, GA; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Other than his parents, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Charity Christian, three brothers, Cecil Rogers, Leonard Rogers, and Lester Rogers, and a sister, Katie Griffin.
