Rush, 89, of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2019, at Baptist Medical Center East in Montgomery, AL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 19, 2019, in the Chapel of Watson- Tante Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Rush officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Harris, Rusty Griner, Bland Brooks, Jerry Blankenship, Jake Brooks, and Jim Rush. Burial will follow the service at Brantley United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Rush was born July 15, 1930, in Buena Vista, GA, to Leonard Carroll and Ozella Tyler Rush. He was a member of Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. Mr. Rush served in the Air Force during the Korea War. Prior to joining the Air Force, he attended Norman College in Moultrie, GA, where he played baseball and basketball on scholarship. He was an All-State basketball player for Marion County, GA. After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in 1958, Mr. Rush and his family moved to nine different cities and lived in ten different homes before settling in Montgomery, AL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara James Lancaster Rush, and two brothers, James Carroll Rush and Franklin Eugene Rush. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Dean and Debbie Rush of Crestview, FL; by a daughter, Cynthia Rush Harris of Montgomery, AL; by his companion, Frances Norman Collins of Cumming, GA; by a sister Sherry Rush Griner of Americus, GA; and by two grandchildren, Katherine Tyler Harris and Michael Allen Harris. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorials may be made to Brantley United Methodist Church. Watson-Tante Funeral Home of Buena Vista, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
