Funeral services were held Sunday, April 6, at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Marion County. Rev. David Chapman, Troy Fripp, and Raymond Smith officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends at Tante Funeral Home on Saturday evening. Mr. Rustin was born July 7, 1931, to Nathan M. and Ethel Welch Rustin in Taylor County, GA. He had lived in Marion County since 1962 and was a retired farmer. He worked at Redman Industries for a number of years. He was active in the community, serving on numerous committees and boards of directors. He was a 50 year Mason Lodge #14. He was also a member of the Schley County American Legion. He loved gospel music, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Foster Rustin; a son Ray Rustin (Darlene) of Buena Vista; daughters- Ellen Willis (Edwin) of Ellaville, GA, Sally Hagler (Charles) and Susan Rustin Mathews of Buena Vista; a sister, Carrie Rustin of Texas; a sister-in-law Gaynelle Rustin of Phenix City, AL; grandchildren- Amanda Castleberry, Bryan and Sam Willis, Colby Rustin and Kristy Rich, Chrystal and Matt Drew, Randal and Crystal Welch, Meredith Hagler and Adam Bryan, and Devan Hagler. Great-Grandchildren: Mikayla Willis, Dunlie Castleberry, and Coleton Drew. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial contributions can be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Buena Vista. Tante Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, with Kim Welch, Mickey Welch, Michael Miller, Wayne Goff, Bobby Woodward, and Randy Yelverton serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Bailey, Carla Brown, Chuck Davis, Lancy Fripp, Jimmy Hagler, Dennis Hutto, Billy Powell, James Rustin, John Rustin, Robert Rustin, David Sizemore, Cliff Sizemore, Kevin Sprott, Tracy Varnum, Tommy Walker, Mike Watson, Lewis Watson,Jr., and Mack Wells.
