Death of Mrs. Stokes

Mrs. J.G. Stokes died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.W. McCrary, at Butler 
last Wednesday morning of congestion which was the result of lagrippe which she 
had some time ago.  She was sick at the time of Mrs. McNeal’s death, and has 
not been well since.

The remains were brought to Buena Vista yesterday morning and were laid to rest 
in the Baptist cemetery in the afternoon by the side of her deceased husband.  
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. Chamleee, of Macon.

Mrs. Stokes was sixty-six years old and leaves a large family of children to 
mourn her death.  She had long been a member of the Missionary Baptist church 
and died in the faith of her blessed Master.

The Stokes family seem to have been peculiarly unfortunate in the matter of 
deaths in late years.  Four deaths have occurred in the family in the past few 
years.  First, Lonnie, the youngest, then the father, then Mrs. W.A. McNeal and 
last the mother.  

The Patriot extends its condolences to the bereaved ones in the hour of their 
sore affliction.

Mr. R.H. Stokes was called by telegram to Butler Monday on account of the 
illness of his mother.

The following relatives of Mrs. Stokes were here to attend the funeral: J.W. 
McCrary and wife, J.G. Stokes and wife, W.A. McNeal and Miss Hattie Stokes, of 
Butler, E.A. Jackson and wife, of Alexander City, E.J. Hart and wife of Dawson, 
H.M. Stokes and wife of Abbeville.
