His death was from the expects of a wound received during the confederate war. When only sixteen years of age he became a confederate soldier and received a wound through the shoulder that rendered one arm useless and from which he suffered great pain, finally causing his death. Mr. Short never married and lived his life of fifty-five years at the old homestead. He was a member of the Methodist church at Brantley and was buried at the cemetery there Thursday morning. The Marion County Patriot, No. 17 April 2, 1904 Page Eight Brantley News Mr. B.F. Short died at his home Wednesday morning at 9:50 o’clock. He has been in bad health for several years due to a wound received during the confederate war. Mr. Short was about fifty-five years of age and lived at the homestead with his sister Amanda who had done all she could for him during his sad afflictions. He was laid to rest at Brantley cemetery Thursday afternoon. The burial services were conducted by Rev. W. McGregor. There was a large number of friends and relatives there to pay their last respects to one who was loved and honored by all who knew him.
