SMITH, BETTY JEAN FUDGE
Mrs. Smith was born June 7, 1923 in Buena Vista, GA to Howard  and Georgia May 
Thomas Fudge Sr.
She was a member of Tabernacle Church in Americus, Sumter County, GA.  She 
married Joe Lewis Smith, Sr.  She died September 24, 1993 at St Francis 
Hospital in Columbus, Muscogee County, GA.
Funeral services were held at 2:00, Saturday, October 2, 1993 at Mt Zion 
Baptist Church in Buena Vista, Marion County, GA; Reverend Floyd Story 
officiated.  Burial  in Mt Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  Nephews 
and grandsons served as pallbearers.  Survivors include her husband, 4 
daughters, Mrs. Majorie (Willie) Stanley of Buena Vista, GA, Mrs. Christine 
(James Nole) Mathis of Columbus, GA, Ms Glorie Smith and Ms Dianna Smith of 
Buena Vista, GA; 7 sons, Joe Lewis (Laura Wilson) Smith, Jr., Levi (Ruby Jean 
King) Smith, Jimmy Smith, Clinton (Mary Lynn Wilson) Smith, Glenn Smith, Bobby 
Smith, Howard (Deloris Harp) Smith,  all of Buena Vista, GA.  6 sisters: Mrs. 
Clara Yapp of Buena Vista, GA, Mrs. Mary (Howard D) Bonner, of Columbus, GA, 
Mrs. Lucille (Lester) Grant of Hartford, CT, Mrs. Annie (Tommy Lee “Billy” 
Jr.) Walton of New Jersey, Mrs. Helen Lee of Columbus, GA and Mrs. Eula (John 
Howard) Maxwell of Hartford, CT; 3 brothers, Mr. Henry (Bobby Ann Prather) 
Fudge, of Buena Vista, GA, Mr. Lish Eli Fudge of New York , Mr. Joseph (Mary 
Ann Aldridge) Fudge, of Hartford, CT; in-laws: Felton (Irene F Ross) Smith, 
Reverend Joe (Jeanette Smith) Muns,  Allen (Selemia Smith) Green, Jr., Moses 
(Mae Ola) Smith, Sr., Walter Lee (Willie Lou Mays) Smith, Johnnie C (Lula Mae 
McGarrah ) Smith, Sr., Clifford (Mae Lee Tommie) Smith, and Abraham Smith.
