Funeral services will be held at 5:00PM on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Iglesia Jesus Es El Señor with Pastor Abundio Sontay and Pastor Baudelio Lopez officiating. He will be laid to rest at a later date in Caserio Paloma, San Vicente, Buenabaj, Momostenango, Totonicapan, Guatemala. He was born on August 1, 1988, in in the Caserío Chipuerta, in the village of San Vicente Buenabaj, Momostenango, Totonicapan, Guatemala, to Rigoberto Vicente Vicente and Martina Sontay Vicente. At the age of 5 they moved to the Caserío de Paloma in the same village. In 1996 he entered the Official Rural Mixed School of Caserío Paloma, finishing his primary level in 2002. At the age of 14 he began working as a Masonry assistant with his father for 3 years. When he was 17 he emigrated to the United States, to the city of Buena Vista, Georgia. He lived there for 17 years and 5 months, and was able to fulfill his longed-for dreams, to help his parents and to build a better future. After moving to Georgia, he worked as a machine operator for Tolleson Inc. for 4 years. He later worked as a machine operator at the Powell Forestry Company. In 2017, together with his brother Rudy Vicente, they created their own company with the name: Elmer's Pinestraw & Landscaping. On August 6, 2022, he got engaged to his girlfriend Deyanira Vicente, a marriage which sadly did not come to pass. In 2016, he was Baptized in the Church: Jesus es el Señor, in Buena Vista, Georgia where he persevered until the last days of his life. Elmer liked to play soccer, basketball, fish, and cook. He was a sociable, friendly, and optimistic person, being for many an example of improvement and perseverance. In March 2019, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. For 3 years and 11 months he fought, like a warrior with an unwavering spirit, based on his faith! Unfortunately it was not possible. He passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Rest in Peace of Who in life he was. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiancé, Deyanira Vicente; and by his siblings, Maria Vicente Sontay, Floridalma Vicente Sontay, Ofelia Vicente Sontay, Rudy Vicente Sontay, Rosalba Vicente Sontay, Marleny Vicente Sontay, and Jeimy Vicente Sontay.
