A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013, at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Reverend Mark Chandler and Reverend Jimmy Dykes officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 13, 2013, from 2:00-4:00 pm. Mrs. Sparks was born on July 11, 1925 in Surry County North Carolina to the late Sam & Dina Galyean. Other than her parents, Mrs. Sparks was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years Wayne T. Sparks Sr., brothers Dix Galyean and Bill Galyean, sister Inez Spears, and her children Wayman Ray Sparks, Rodney Edwin Sparks, and Lucy “Joann” Hazeline Skaggs. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She never met a stranger; only those who were not yet friends and enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing and her family. In Cusseta, GA she served in numerous capacities within the First Baptist Church and served her community as a City Councilwoman for 4 years. Survivors include; daughter, Phyllis Dunman (Gene) of Bossier City, LA and two sons, Wayne T “Sonny” Sparks Jr. (Lorita) of Cusseta, GA and Robin L. Sparks (Diana) of Anywhere USA, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, numerous nieces/nephews. She is also survived by, Hero, her beloved canine pet and companion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory of Mrs. Hazel Sparks to Vista Care Hospice, 100 Brookstone Ctr Pkwy, Columbus, GA, 31904 or your local church.
