A Celebration of Life for the Sutherland brothers will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church on Hwy 30. There will be another Celebration of Life for Roy held in Munford, TN in June. Born June 19, 1959, in the Territory of Hawaii, the year it became a state, Roy Douglas Sutherland was the fourth of five children born to Layton and Irma Sutherland. A respected member of the Scottish Rite and the community, he spent most of his life in the small town of Munford, Tennessee, just outside of Memphis. Roy had a sincere love of animals, especially dogs, passed onto him by his father and developed through 4-H. The only thing he loved more than eating was cooking; BBQ ribs, smoking shoulders, and frying catfish. He was also an avid league bowler who won two championships until shoulder injuries forced him into retirement. Spending quality time with his family was paramount whether watching movies or encouraging his great nieces and nephews. While not an overtly religious man, Roy had a child’s faith and loved God in his own way. He had a heart of gold with patience to rival Job. He was a simple man who would help anyone and had a kind word for everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and his nephew. He is survived by his daughter and her fiancé Christine Sutherland and Tony Schuba, his brother and sister-in-law Will and Betse Sutherland, his sister and her husband Laurie Sutherland and Vince Stockwell, three nieces, two nephews and several great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his life-long friends Clint Fite and Vickie Williams as well as so many others. Way-Watson Funeral Home of Buena Vista, GA, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
