Turner, and daughter of Mr. T.L. Rogers, of Buena Vista, died at the home of her husband at Statesboro Monday night at 9 o’clock. The death was sudden and unexpected, and the relatives and friends of the deceased had no thought of the death of this good woman until a telegram was received Tuesday morning, bringing the sad intelligence which caused many hearts to mourn, and tears to well up to the eyes of those who knew her well and loved her. The remains were brought to Buena Vista for burial and arrived here Tuesday night at 11 o’clock, a special train being sent out on the H.V.&E road to meet the night train on the Southwestern road, in order that the corpse might not be kept out too long. The funeral services were conducted by Mr. Anthony at the Methodist church Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock and the building was taxed to accommodate the crowd who came to pay the last sad rites to their deceased friend. The choir sang “Nearer, My God, To Thee” in a very pathetic manner, after which the preacher announced his text, which was taken from the 4th verse of the 9th chapter of John and reads, “Work, for the night cometh, when no man can work.” He spoke of the Christian virtues of the deceased and exhorted the living in a very forcible manner, to be ready when the angel of death came. After the sermon all that was mortal of the once affectionate wife and daughter, and kind friend, was laid away in its last resting place in the Methodist cemetery, surrounded by a large number of sorrowing friends. It was only about a year ago that she left her friends a happy bride and how soon to return cold in death! She was just entering the morning of a bright and useful life, and what a pity to be taken away so early, but it was the will of Him who “doeth all things well” and no one however much they loved her, could wish her to exchange a life that is eternally blessed for a life that is a mere span. She was a member of the Methodist church and “went to sleep in Jesus” with a full assurance of that reward which is promised the faithful. We deeply sympathize with the relatives of the deceased, and especially the husband, whose heart pangs no one can appreciate except those who have gone through the same sad ordeal.
